History about
Matrix Sire's
When I was a kid I raised rabbits with my father. So as a father today I felt if they wanted to, I would like to raise rabbits again. And we did for about 3 months. Thats when my wife said we have all that barn just sitting there lets get a horse or a cow Oh! I know, sheep she said. Well I made some inquiry's around and found that goats were very personable and not hard to keep track of ( LOL ) Just tie them to a block out in the yard. So I ran the idea past Cindy and the kids and they said lets do it. So we bought a 3/4 boer buck from a local friend and a nubian doe from another. we paid $50.00 each for them and was worried about getting our money back from there kids. We also bought 2 pygmy's a doe and a buck at a local flea market. After about 1 year we had 2 kids a pygmy doe and a 3/8 boer billy. During that same year we ran across an add for hay and come to find out it was a local breeder raising full blooded boers. Now we had a decission to make keep raiseing $50.00 goats or step up to these full blooded high priced boers plus we needed hay for what we had. He (Stacy Claggett of Broken Bow Boers) soon became our 1 stop shop for hay and these wonderful fullblood boers. We bought 3 bred fullblood doe's from Stacy and a full blood buck (Matrix) all 100 % South African with pedigre's. This was our start and its all history now. we are still in the growing process however, we have sold our original nubian and 3/4 billy and the pygmy's. We are 3 year's into it now starting in 2004 we went from 4 animals with no direction in mind. To 28 animals in total with definate plans in mind for our future.
Our future plans for this farm are as follows:
DOE'S
We plan on running 30-40 fullblood adult doe's total. We are about half way there. Not includeing our percentage's and babie's.
BUCKS:
We plan on running 3 full blood bucks in total. Each with there own building blocks. We have Matrix which is our foundation. He puts the frame on our kids. From there each doe kid that we keep will move on to Buster which isnt totally proven here yet.........His doe kids look really good But we haven't had any Buck's out of him to judge. Now with that being said. Here in January we had 2 buck kid's from Buster and they look really nice but they are only 2 weeks old right now. We have another group of doe's due febuary 1st so maybe there will be more then. This season has been all doe's so far. The 3rd buck which hasnt been seen or bought yet. Will fix any and hopefully all problems left to correct. He's not even needed here as of yet. Our finished product isnt exspected untill sometime in 2009.
PRODUCTION SALE
We plan to have a production sale useing a small co-op of breeder's and bringing in some other bigger more nationally known breeder's. But here's what we hope will be different. The breeder's we invite into OHIO will bring some of there good stuff not just there broken down cull animals. There culls might very well be better then what some of us have here, but we dont need to be an outlet for everyone's junk. We as breeder's need to keep our future in mind and breed up not down.
The date for this annual event hasn't been established as of today. But it will come as soon as we all have the animals in place to do it. We want nothing less then 90 animals and about 75 % or higher will be doe's. And with this being a production sale the animals involved should be of production level. this not saying there wont be any kid's sold but nearly 95% should be of production age.
